Be honest about your weaknesses

The fake weakness ("I work too hard") fools no one. Real self-awareness scores; spin does not.

The weakness question tests self-awareness and growth mindset, not whether you are flawless. Interviewers have heard "I’m a perfectionist" a thousand times and discount it instantly. A real, specific weakness paired with what you are doing about it is far stronger.

The structure that works

Name a genuine weakness, give a concrete example of it biting you, then describe the specific steps you have taken to improve and the evidence it is working. The improvement arc is what they are actually scoring — a weakness you are actively closing is a positive signal.

Pick a weakness that is real but not disqualifying

Be honest, but be strategic about which honest weakness you share. "I used to delay raising blockers because I wanted to solve everything myself — now I have a 24-hour rule for flagging" is great. Avoid weaknesses that are core, non-negotiable requirements of the role you are interviewing for.

Key takeaways

  • Skip the humble-brag — name a genuine, specific weakness.
  • Show the improvement arc: example → action taken → evidence it is working.
  • Choose a real weakness that is not core to the role you want.
